Heart Star Block
Heart Star Block is a quilt block template with simple instructions from Brimfield Awakening. It uses Hexiform Leave in EPP sheets for you to trace your own Hexiform Hearts. When you place 5 together, the negative space within the block forms a star. This quilt block is free to Brimfield Awakening Newsletter subscribers. You can sign up for our newsletter here.
We recommend purchasing a Hexiform leave-in EPP sheet in either the 20″ x 20″ or 24″ x 33″ size. This will yield plenty of hearts to get you started on your project.
You can use traditional card stock, if you want, be we prefer to use the Hexiform leave in EPP because they make your block irresistibly plump and cute! The added texture adds so much interest to them.

This heart template pdf download also comes with basic instructions that will walk you through making your own Heart Star Block. Heart Star Block is free to newsletter subscribers (you can subscribe to our newsletter here.) You will want to also grab your free 72° angle placement template to help you with this pattern. This design is similar to EPP in that you are wrapping fabric around a template, but in actuality – you are not stitching them to other pieces. It’s much easier than that! Each heart template simply gets appliquéd (sewn) to a background square. And the pattern instructions addresses both concave and convex curves and glue basting. See the last picture in the gallery to see how you have to snip into the seam allowance near the top of the heart’s concave curve.
